Tokashemia Grady-Carter, BSN, RN-BC, is a mother of four beautiful girls who resides in Houston, Texas.
Employed for over 11 years at the Michael E. Debakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, Texas, she began her nursing career in 2005 graduating from Houston Community College.
After obtaining a Diploma in Vocational Nursing, she worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for seven years. She returned to school enrolling in Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
During Tokashemia’s last semester of nursing school, she suffered a stroke. Though finishing her final semester seemed impossible, she managed to complete it and was able to march across the stage with her class. Passionate about her career, she decided to obtain a certification in Medical Surgical Nursing advancing in her profession and expertise. She later received a nomination as Recording Secretary on the Executive Board of AFGE Local 1633 Union and was selected by majority vote to secure the position for three years tenure.
In her free time, she loves to spend time with her children, travel, dance and read. She is the owner and founder of Girlrillus LLC; a small athleisure wear company created and centered around her daughters. Her athleisure wear inspires women to embrace their health and to promote wellness. Her ambitions are to fully thrive as an entrepreneur, inspirational speaker and to continue to impact lives crossed during her journey.
